Dawn Macey-Boyette – Our October Dance Teacher of the Month!

We are very excited to announce the first ever winner of our “Dance Teacher of the Month” Award, Dawn Macey-Boyette of Stars Studio in Laurel.

Miss Dawn started dancing at the age of 5 at La Maison De La Danse, a studio which her family owned and operated for more than four decades. Later as a teacher, she founded and then directed their competition team for 24 years. In 2008, La Maison De La Danse closed and transitioned into Stars Studio, where Miss Dawn continued her teaching career. All total this is her 40th year of teaching dance!

Outside of her own classroom, Miss Dawn is a national and international award winning choreographer, and has taught as a Master Teacher at national dance conventions. Many of her students have gone on to careers in the dance field, earned college scholarships for dance, and completed internships with such companies as the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. She also works with special needs children for the Anne Arundel County Public School System.

Miss Dawn was nominated by her former student and current colleague Laura Murphy, who wrote:

“I would love to nominate Dawn Macey-Boyette for the “Dance Teacher of the Month” Award. I was fortunate to train under Miss Dawn as a young dancer. She is a master of the classroom with a great wealth of experience under her belt. Miss Dawn taught me innumerable lessons that I carry with me as a professional dancer, educator, and member of society. She taught me determination, perseverance, dedication, humility, discipline, and so much more. As an adult, it is a privilege to teach alongside Miss Dawn. Her expertise and thorough training helped shape me into the dancer and woman I am today. It is always a joy to drop into her class and see her shaping the next generation of dancers. Miss Dawn not only shapes dancers, but men and women of integrity who are driven to work hard and succeed. For this reason and many more, I am pleased to nominate Miss Dawn Macey-Boyette for the “Dance Teacher of the Month” Award.”

In getting to know Dawn a little bit when she visited our store to receive her award, we learned that one of her greatest influencers was Toby Orenstein, owner and Artistic Director of Toby’s Dinner Theatre in Columbia. Dawn commented that Toby could always take the most difficult situation and turn it into beauty.

Miss Dawn teaches her students to always maintain that same outlook, focusing on determination and perseverance, making sure that “I can’t” is not in their vocabulary. She always takes great pleasure in seeing her students reach their goals, and achieve things that they never dreamed were imaginable.

For all her wonderful years as an amazing teacher and mentor, we are delighted to recognize Dawn Macey-Boyette as our October Teacher of the Month!
